Apartments can be amazing - as well as the exact opposite. I have leased apartments for about four years now and I have heard it all!
Today, I am going to give you some of my helpful tips on how to have a positive apartment experience:
TIP #1: As nice as the property may showcase, remember: it's all about the management. I cannot stress how important the management company is. They're the backbone to having an excellent experience. If you like maintenance within 24 hours, receiving packages on-time, and pleasant correspondence, then it's all about the management company. So do your research, and if you can, ask residents about how they feel about their current management company. (Now, with that being said, apartments can switch management companies at anytime... It's written into your contract.)
TIP #2: Whether you are an introvert or extrovert, it is important to build relationships with your neighbors. You already live super close to them and they can be very helpful in many scenarios!
Here are some quick examples of why:
-Example: Plenty of people would be more than happy to watch a pet or water plants while you're away.
-Example: Save time and try new meals by sharing cooking responsibilities once or twice a week, or meal prep on Sundays together. This is assuming you and your neighbor can cook. If neither of y'all can cook then you can each pick a place to order out or go out on your night for dinner. (***Bonus: Community events usually include complimentary food and drinks!)
TIP #3: Choose a property that fits your lifestyle. This is very important because you are more likely to find neighbors with similar interests and it can also save you a lot of headache, time, and money.
Here are a few benefits:
-Benefit #1: Consider that if an apartment's rent is only a couple bucks more per month to have your dream gym with everything you need, this can save you a lot of time driving to the gym, and you no longer have to pay for a gym membership.
-Benefit #2: If you like amazing food, like me, you might want to be within walking distance to some great restaurants. This will save you gas money, miles on your car, and if you like to drink, possibly a DWI. Plus, you'll get some fresh air and exercise on the short walk over.
-Benefit #3: If you have pet, but don't like to get your bathroom dirty, look for an apartment with pet washing stations. This makes cleaning your pet or rinsing muddy paws a breeze!
